Making Errands Easier

Did you know that you can automate some of your errands? It can make your life a lot easier if you do. For example, instead of checking out a paperback book at the library, you could read books on an e-reader. If you do, the books are automatically returned for you when they are due. You can also have prescriptions that you need refilled regularly filled automatically through your health-care provider or at some stores, such as Walgreens. You could automate purchases on Amazon for things you always need—for example, laundry detergent, toilet paper, and paper towels. You could also buy clothes you don’t need to try on through Amazon, such as socks and underwear. Some dry cleaners will pick up and drop off your clothes for you. Last but not least, you could always pay someone to run your errands. There are websites online that tell you all of the types of errands someone can do for you.

automate: to make something happen automatically, or without much effort; Example: Andrea would like to automate some of her errands.

paperback book: a book that has a thick paper cover. Example: I like paperback books because they are lighter than hardcover books.

e-reader: a device that lets you read books, newspapers, and magazines electronically, such as a Nook, Kindle, or iPad. Example: Some people prefer an e-reader to a book because they can have many books on it.

prescription: a doctor’s note that allows a person to get certain medications from a drugstore; it also gives instructions on how and when to take the medicine. Example: Stefanie needed a prescription because she had strep throat.

health-care provider: a person who helps identify or prevent illness or injury and then helps treat you, such as a doctor, dentist, nurse, or physical therapist. Example: My health-care provider would like me to stop eating sugar.
